She is the daughter of Harvey Welker, a Native American father along with Julie Welker, an African American mother. Walker was educated at Germantown Friends School located in Philadelphia's Germantown region, where she was able to graduate in 1994. When she graduated of Harvard College in 1998, she enrolled at Harvard College and earned her Bachelor of Arts. Welker got married to John Hughes in Philadelphia, who was known as a marketing director. The couple has two daughters. They began to have an affair.
