Nathalie Emmanuel

Nathalie Joanne Emmanuel was born on March 2, 1989. Emmanuel began her acting career with theatre in the late 1990s and was cast in various West End productions such as the musical The Lion King. Her birthplace was Southend-on-Sea in Essex, England, on March 2nd, 1989. Her mother is Dominican, as is her father, who is half-Saint Lucian and half English descent. She has an older brother. Emmanuel recalled how her mom was the first person to realize her passion for acting when she attended St Hilda's School. It was closed in the year 2014. The Westcliff High School For Girls grammar school was the next to follow. She explained that she first noticed her passion for acting when she was only three years old. Her mother advised her to enroll in dancing, singing, as well as acting classes. In the West End production of The Lion King, Young Nala was the role of Young Nala. In the next year she was cast in Game of Thrones as Missandei, Daenerys Targaryen’s interpreter. She revealed to Jimmy Kimmel that she heard about her winning the role while working as a shop attendant at a clothes shop. Emmanuel was named a regular cast member in 2015, after winning the role. Missandei was the only prominent character who was female of colour in the show. In addition, her funeral scene, which occurred during her time in chains was not popular with viewers, being called an example of fridging , and also evoked an image of slavery.Emmanuel later said to The Guardian: The reaction to the death of Missandei was big because she was the only one. Many people felt disenfranchised or othered had felt connected to her or believed they were represented by them, especially women of color. When she died - and the way she did - it was so painful for people because they thought, "Oh it's not so! They're pursuing the sole woman of colour.
